Fibre Sail Technology (FST) - the ultimate membrane sail
Performance, Design and Light Weight for maximum Speed

FST Sails are the ultimate performance sail. Fast, light, strong, and engineered for performance. From Performance Cruisers to Grand Prix Racers, from 24 feet to 150 feet, FST Sails will give you the performance advantage you need. Customer satisfaction is our creed, and FST Sails will satisfy you.

FST Sails are comprised of laminated membranes, containing various combinations of carbon, Arimid, technora and polyester yarns. Manufactured by fully computerized and automated processes derived from proprietary design software, each sail is customized for its intended use.

These designs incorporate
• Zero crimp and no low-load elongation. Against other leading competitors, FST sails showed significantly less crimp.
• Full reproducibility and adherence to mold design. FST Sails are consistently reproducible from the same design mold.
• Shape fully built into each FST Sail.
• Use of Relax 2 sail simulation software for structural yarn analysis for optimum performance.

FST Sails Provide Optimal Strength to Weight Ratios

Incorporating carbon fiber yarns, each sail is tailored to the optimal dpi for the customers needs. Incorporating different yarns with different properties, sails are engineered for the performance needs of customers.

The materials and yarn paths are determined by computer design to give the correct balance between structural strength, performance and light-weight. Load paths are carefully calculated for the conditions under which the sail will be used. These can be as highly defined as an Americas Cup regatta, or as general as a club racer.

Key functional yarns are manufactured according to FST specifications ensuring the best performance in the sails.

FST Sails incorporate stringent Quality Assurance and Quality Control Standards

FST Sails are produced to the highest quality standards to ensure optimal performance. Customers have the assurance of sailing with a fully tested material set.

• Each FST material supplier is validated to ensure material set components are supplied to specification.
• A full validation program for new materials is undertaken. This involves production and testing of test sails ensuring FST material sets are fully accepted before being manufactured into sailcloth.
• All FST Sailcloth is functionally tested by producing testing material simultaneously with the actual sail. This is functionally tested at time of manufacture and after accelerated aging for functional stability and performance. This testing includes;

          o Flutter testing
          o Impact Flutter testing
          o Bend testing
          o Load testing

• The use of Relax 2 sail simulation software for structural yarn analysis to ensure optimum placement of yarn paths.

FST Research and Development Program

FST has a structured R&D program to drive development of better materials and better sails. Internal and external development is undertaken by key suppliers to drive new material set development and supply options.

FST Durability and Performance

FST sails are designed to give customers a durable performance edge. Considerable investment is made in engineering and process development to ensure a superior product is produced.
